Liberation Music’s most recent signing, World’s End Press will unveil their new single Second Day Uptown on April 30.

Recorded with Dan Whitford (of Cut Copy) at an inner-city warehouse in Melbourne and mixed in LA by Tony Hoffer (The Temper Trap, Phoenix, M83), Second Day Uptown is an utterly infectious, totally danceable avant-pop gem.

In the words of singer/ guitarist John Parkinson, Second Day Uptown is about ‘living in the city, assimilating and forgetting who you used to be’.

The first cut from the Melbourne band’s debut album to be released later in the year, it promises exciting things to come.

Written up in NME three times to date (including their 100 New Bands You Have to Hear issue earlier in the year) and adored by blogs, World’s End Press are a band to keep on your radar in 2012.

The boys are a favourite of festival goers the nation over, renowned for their wild, unbridled shows. They have crossed the country several times, performing at Splendour in the Grass, Falls, Laneway, Golden Plains, Southbound and the St Kilda Festival. They have shared the stage with the likes of Primal Scream, Cut Copy, !!!, Little Red and Metronomy.

In 2010 World’s End Press released two singles, Only The Brave and Golden Child, along with an EP, Faithful. All three songs received a plethora of community radio support with Faithful also much-loved by Triple J.

Now they bring us their newest offering Second Day Uptown – keep an eye (and an ear) out for it from next Monday.

Jack White Australian sideshows

Posted in Uncategorized on April 24, 2012 by speakertv

Rock luminary JACK WHITE will be performing two headline shows in Melbourne and Sydney this July to showcase material from his much anticipated solo debut Blunderbuss (out 20 April through Sony).

Undoubtedly one of the world’s most prolific artists to emerge in the past fifteen years, Jack White has helmed some of the world’s most venerable musical outfits including The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.

The multitalented musician, eminent producer and successful label owner has taken home nine Grammys in seven different categories, proving his versatility and prowess within all endeavours. Blunderbuss is no exception.

The first single ‘Love Interruption’ from his most recent endeavour was quickly devoured and doted upon, as was follow up track ‘Sixteen Saltines’, leaving critics and fans hungry for more:

“Reminiscent of deeper cuts on the last few White Stripes albums, “Love Interruption” is an unusual but tantalizing lead track… Like the recent material from his other bands – and its title — “Love Interruption” leaves you lusting for more.” – BILLBOARD

“…This project is designed to be bigger than anything he’s done since the Stripes. Even more importantly than this, I’ve heard it three times and I can’t get a second of it out of my head.” – NME

Jack White’s live show only adds to the sense of awe and reverence felt toward the Nashville resident. Those who made it into the showcase of White’s label Third Man Records during SXSW were treated to revamped hits as well as new material, all of which Australian fans can look forward to:

“What could have been White simply showcasing his new songs turned into a two-part, two-hour party featuring several White Stripes classics as well as tunes from his other projects the Raconteurs and his cinematic Danger Mouse/Daneile Luppi collaboration, Rome….proving yet again that he’s an able, commanding helmsman no matter what ship he’s steering.” – VARIETY

“A 90-minute set, which was easily the best live performance this writer has ever seen him play (White Stripes, Raconteurs, and Dead Weather all included)…Each song exploded to form a dazzling wall of sound, a level of intensity and vigor and perfection obtained by only the greats.” – CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND

Australia’s favourite rockabilly darling LANIE LANE will be joining Jack White on tour, having received his endorsement in the early stages of her career when she took him up on his offer to produce and release the single ‘Aint Hungry’ for Third Man Records.

Lanie Lane has since performed sold out shows of her own across the country and her debut album To The Horses (out now through Ivy League) has gained her devoted fans of her own upon its release late last year.

Hilltop Hoods announce national tour

Posted in Uncategorized on April 23, 2012 by speakertv

A lover or hater of hip hop – Hilltop Hoods have a special place in all of our hearts. Once underdogs of the Australian music scene, Hilltop Hoods keep rising to new heights! To celebrate the release of their new album Drinking From The Sun, the group are heading out on a national tour.

“Speaking In Tongues” National Australian Album Tour

Australia’s acclaimed HILLTOP HOODS are hitting the road this coming winter for one of the year’s most highly anticipated tours. Supporting the recent release of their #1 Platinum album, ‘Drinking From The Sun’, the Hoods begin their National tour (their only headline tour for 2012) on Thursday the 28th of June. ‘Drinking From The Sun’ was certified Gold on first day of release and reached Platinum status the following week. It also retained the #1 spot on the ARIA charts for 2 weeks, dislodging Adele from the top position. ‘Drinking From The Sun’, HILLTOP HOODS 6th studio album, featured as ‘JJJ Album Of The Week’ and the double Platinum hit single ‘I Love It Feat. Sia’ took over the airwaves across the country as they supported Eminem and performed on the 2012 BDO tour.

‘Still at the top of their game…9/10’ (JJJ Mag)

“Drinking From The Sun” is another home run from the undisputed masters of Australian Hip Hop.’ (Inpress)

‘Australian Hip Hop trail blazers deliver goods again…’ (Rolling Stone)

‘This offering is another jewel in the crown’ (The Australian)

‘This album – so massive in vision, so steeped in hooks – already plays like a classic’ (The Vine)
Undertaking their first headline tour since 2009, HILLTOP HOODS will be performing tracks off their new album alongside fan favourites from ‘State of the Art’, ‘The Hard Road’ and ‘The Calling’. Holding down the main support slot on the national tour is Sydney crew HORRORSHOW. This two-man outfit is one of the country’s most promising Hip Hop acts, with two albums, an ARIA nomination, sold-out national tours and festivals under their belt all before they hit 23 years of age. Without any ‘hit’ singles, HORRORSHOW have built a huge support base as well as gaining critical acclaim for their sharp lyricism and hard hitting production. BRIGGS, a young talented emcee hailing from Shepparton, will also be joining this high calibre line up. Since dropping his debut album ‘The Blacklist’, on HILLTOP HOODS very own label GOLDEN ERA RECORDS; BRIGGS has been a staple on the local Hip Hop touring circuit. While supporting countless local and international artists BRIGGS has been hard at work on his highly anticipated sophomore album, which is scheduled for release later this year.

Continuing to rewrite the Hip Hop rulebook, HILLTOP HOODS look forward to sharing their new chapter with supporters across the country as they hit the road this winter on the Speaking In Tongues National tour.

Audego sound like the love child of Faithless and Deerhunter – the dense hard hitting hip-hop bass acts as the foundation for it’s light composition which calmly washes over you. Their music speaks to your inner dancer, as it unlocks a small universe of something special.

It all started with a remix…. When Paso Bionic corrupted Big Fella’s delicate melody like a dirty boss to a pretty intern, it was obvious to all that things couldn’t end there. This re-rub lead promptly to marriage, then to babies and Audego. After a quantum step through space and time, Audego now celebrate the release of their sparkling debut album ‘Abominable Galaxy’. The result of the combined force of the duo is a pretty yet gritty mix of silky vocals, smudged samples, blurred synths and crooked percussion. Constructed over the course of a year in their home studio, ‘Abominable Galaxy’ is a melting pot of soft synths, found sounds and layers of vocal harmonies.

Abominable Galaxy is out now!

Buckley Ward

Buckley Ward are definitely a band to watch for 2012!

Their music has eagerness at its best in upbeat tracks such as So Pretend, yet maintains a refreshing rhythmical quality in slower paced songs which makes them such a pleasant listen. Buckley Ward possess versatility; able to execute light and shade to convey a confident and developed sound, so it’s no wonder they have toured with the likes of The Jungle Giants and San Cisco, with Big Scary taking them on a national tour in late 2011.

A band as infectiously captivating as this will sure make a lasting impression with the release of their new album ‘So Pretend’ out through Shock Records on 20 April.

Here is their latest single Into The Darkening Blue

So Pretend has been described as “an album with pop at its heart, and something less definable in its veins. On the surface, the shimmering melodies and pitch perfect harmonies dominate, but listen closer and the album’s darker undercurrents snap sharply into focus.”

28th of April – Edinburgh Castle, Adelaide
11th of May – X&Y, Brisbane
19th of May – The Toff, Melbourne
27th of May – Pure Pop Records, Melbourne
2nd of June – FBi Social, Sydney
