Discodeine release debut album

Parisian duo Discodeine was brought to life in 2007 when the twisted musical minds of Pilooski and Pentile first merged. Having found mutual ground around their love of sci-fi movies, weird club music and the south west French cooking style, these two musicians have combined and conquered with their self titled debut album released in Australia on 23rd May by Brumby Music.

Cédric Marszewski aka Pilooski has been steadily building a name for himself since his first 7” release in 2002. Collaborating with Dirty Sound System on the hugely popular ‘Dirty Edits’ series, Pilooski has released a string of 7”, 10” and 12” records as well as remixed the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Bryan Ferry and Mystery Jets. His partner in crime Benjamin Morando aka Pentile was part of several recording projects at the beginning of the last decade namely Octet, France Copland and solo as Morando.

Since joining forces, Discodeine have already released 5 acclaimed EPs, which have been supported by a wide range of musicians and DJs such as Busy P, Simian Mobile Disco, Ivan Smagghe, Ewan Pearson, Erol Alkan, Chloé, Prins Thomas, Mickey Moonlight, Aeroplane and James Murphy.

Britpop legend Jarvis Cocker lends his signature vocals to ‘Synchronize’, the kickoff single from the long player. The dance floor may not be the most obvious place to find Cocker – from ‘Disco 2000’ to proper disco – but the Pulp front man’s sleazy, world-weary croon is the perfect foil to Pilooski and Pentile’s floor-filling beats. Catching the ears of DFA – home label of LCD Sound System – the single has now been released by them in the USA.  W

Hot on the heels of summer and serving as a perfect album opener comes ‘Singular’, featuring the vocal talents of Matias Aguayo (Kompakt / Comeme / Closer Musik). Threatening to tip the album over into Pop territory but never making the jump, ‘Singular’ has been doing the rounds of the DJ circuit over the past months. Also featured on the album are the vocal talents of Baxter Dury who is signed to UK label Rough Trade (The Smiths, The Strokes, The Libertines).
