Held on Sunday June 26th at Elsternwick Park, the 2011 Reclink Community Cup is not only a brilliant game of footy it’s also an opportunity to showcase some of Australia’s best live musicians.  This year is no different with the announcement of two of Australia’s favourite bands confirmed to play.

First announcement is Wollongong based stoner rock group Tumbleweed, who hit the scene during the grunge  years of the 1990s and as an opening band for Nirvana on their 1992 tour of Australia.  Tumbleweed reached out into the mainstream with their crunchy-psychedelica and amazing live show. After a long hiatus the band returned with the line-up widely understood as the original, for the Homebake festival in December 2009. After the success of the reformation, the band then played at the Sydney and Melbourne Big Day Out festivals in January 2010 and are now returning to Melbourne for this very special half-time performance at the 2011 Reclink Community Cup. This will be the first time in Community Cup history that a band from NSW has graced the stage and grounds for the event and will be Tumbleweeds only all-ages performance in Victoria.

The second big announcement for this year’s entertainment features regular star player and Connolly medalist, Tim Rogers performing with his much loved band You Am I after the match. ‘After my inconsistent, show-ponyesque performances on the field for the mighty Rockdogs, I wanted to contribute ferociously to Melbourne’s premier A-list event by slaughtering our own back catalogue of cult classics post match!’ – says You Am I lead singer and Rockdogs Vice Captain, Tim Rogers.

Playing alongside Tumbleweed and You Am I this year will be Mercy Kills and The Rebelles, with the National Anthem being played by the one and only Barry Morgan on his organ. With such a killer line up, it’s certain this year’s Reclink Community Cup will once again deliver on not only the best entertainment, but one very entertaining game of footy.

As the theme of the 2011 Reclink Community Cup is ‘Do you love me?’, a tribute to Melbourne’s much loved Nick Cave, all bands will perform a Nick Cave song as part of their set.

The Reclink Community Cup is a footy match like no other, between the Triple R 102.7FM and PBS 106.7FM Megahertz and the Espy Rockdogs. The game and the day celebrate Melbourne’s dynamic music and community broadcasting cultures while raising funds for the events official charity partner, Reclink.
