The Skylines August Residency at Revolver

The Skylines are getting their funk on South side during their August residency at Revolver. Week two they are joined by Rush of Colour who exploded onto the music scene at the beginning of 2010. Founding member Chris Gassin (guitar) met up with Hayden Joseph (drums), Jacqui Rath (vocals ) and Jess Wood (bass) to form Rush of Colour.
With their own unique sound thanks to influences such as Jamiroquai, James Brown, Stevie Wonder and the Red Hot Chili Peppers and mixing Jazz, Funk and Rock together Rush of Colour prides itself on writing energetic tunes with powerful vocals and driving beats.

Week three brings you 6 piece outfit Lyndal Barry and The Apollos with their authentic blend of funk and soul grooves topped with slick horns and Lyndal Barry’s strong and rhythmic vocals. Their debut 7” was recorded mostly live, in an all analogue studio with the final cut made without the editing or processing seen in almost all modern recordings. Taking inspiration from the greats of the funk and soul scene such Marva Whitney, Wilson Picket and King Floyd as well as modern act such as The Dapkings, Lyndal Barry and The Apollos create a sound that’s both fresh and original yet authentic.

Week 4 and the final week are Soul Safari. If your tastes run to the tune of soul/funk/pop/groove, then you should check out these relative newcomers to the scene. The bands 7 piece musical offerings are pleasing, with their growing number of fans at their carefully selected venues and shows they play. Comprised of a handful of Melbourne’s most in demand young musicians, Soul Safari offers a mix of skillful musicianship, original songs and a highly entertaining show.
