Basement Jaxx – New Album ‘Scars”

Posted in Music with tags , , , on August 11, 2009 by speakertv

Basement Jaxx finally hit us with their highly anticipated and much talked about fifth album Scars.

Born out of trial and tribulation, the aptly titled Scars is another masterpiece in the dance-pop spectrum. A kind of return-to-form for the award-winning duo, Scars brings back the sound that saw Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe absolutely tear up the dance music scene in the late 90ʼs and early ʻ00ʼs .
Their new offering features a stellar cast of cameos including Australiaʼs very own ARIA award winning singer Sam Sparro, the legendary Yoko Ono, chart topper Kelis and the very hot Philly native Santigold. Featuring singles Sheʼs
No Good, the UK Top 20 smash Raindrops and the brand new anthemic soulclub stormer Feelingʼs Gone featuring Sam Sparro.
Scars is as innovative in its sound as it is in its vision.
Scars is set for release September 18th 2009 [XL/ Recordings/ Remote Control].

Cherry Vinyl On Sundays

Posted in Music, Rock'en channel with tags on August 7, 2009 by speakertv

The Sunday Vinyl Crew are bringing vinyl back!

Cherry Vinyl 19-07-09

There was a time not so long ago when music lovers maxed the wax rather than prodded the pod to get their sonic highs. So at Cherry Bar on a Sunday nights have gone back to the old school: Music on vinyl. All Night. That’s right. No CD’s, no laptops, and definitely no ipods!

So what type of music will we be playing?

All sorts!

To kick start each night, we’ll be departing with good old rock and roll, but it changes as the night goes on, so there could be soul, funk, punk, reggae, latin, lounge, new wave, rockabilly, disco, POWERBALLADS! Hell, we might even mix ‘em all up together for you in a cross-genre, ménage a plenty!

It all depends on the DJ’s on the night, we never know what they are going to play and that’s the beauty of it! Oh, and did we mention there’s a late licence? On a school night too! Even more reason to come down and be naughty.

So come and join Resident DJ’s The Vinyl Whores and Double A along with guests of their choice each week!

WHERE: Cherry Vinyl

WHEN: Every Sunday from 8:00pm

WHY: Because Entry is Free and the music is rockin for a Sunday night!

Friendly Fires!

Posted in Music on August 6, 2009 by speakertv

Friendly Fires, where to start!

Lets start with the fact that i managed to catch their very first London show on a very hot steamy London night so some dodgy pub up in Islington North London.

They, seem to think their show that night was terrible, i wouldn’t say terrible, it was raw, but i could definitely see the potential for the little band to grow in a massive way. Who blames for having a crap show, every god damn record company scout and publisher in the UK music industry were present that night! The FF guys told me last week when i interviewed them  that Late At Pier opened the show that night, alas i was only there to see Friendly Fires! But funny how both are now two of the biggest indie bands in the UK!

So i think the guys told after me seeing their first show, the next show i was to catch only a few short years later was at the Prince band room last Wednesday. It was their 294th show or there abouts! Lets just say that 294 shows later they certainly didn’t disappoint and the St Albans boys had not only grown musically but technically!

Stay tuned to Speaker TV for an interview with Ed and Jack and you might even be lucky to catch some live footage from the show that night too!

In the meantime check out their new tunes on their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/friendlyfires
