Gym Class Heroes (USA)

Fresh from upstate New York, the multi-genre Gym Class Heroes demonstrate a musical dexterity that sees them defy easy categorisation. The quartet’s sound is rooted in traditional hip hop except with live instruments in lieu of looped samples or beats, and a range of rock, R&B and funk influences. With a mission to redefine the parameters of rap, the band are as comfortable playing to a throng of moshing punk kids as they are playing to hoards of head-nodding hip hop fans. Formed in 2001, it was their second album The Papercut Chronicles (released on the Fueled by Ramen label – home to acts like Panic! Mark Ronson Vs Zane Lowe (UK)

Mark Ronson probably needs no introduction, but here goes anyway: he produced Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black album, helped propel Lilly Allen and Adele to stardom, took over the charts (with a little help from his famous friends) with his acclaimed album Version and has proven himself to be one of the most prodigious and prolific producers in the world today. In the legendary world of UK radio, there are few bigger stars on the airwaves than Zane Lowe. Presenting his own self-titled show on BBC Radio 1 four nights a week, Zane is a certified tastemaker whose reputation for breaking hot new acts, the next big single and stars of the future is second to none, think household names like Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, Kasabian and Kaiser Chiefs. John O’Callahan (IRE)

A genuine superstar of trance, Ireland’s finest John O’Callahan is a fully fledged member of the DJ elite, as evidenced by his number 33 position in the 2010 DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll. Notable for playing high-energy trance with a refined precision- mixing style, John has spun at some of the world’s highest-profile clubs, arenas and festivals, including Trance Energy, Globalgathering, the WMC in Miami and Rain in Las Vegas and he’s also a regular fixture in Ibiza. When not behind the decks John’s busy working magic in the studio; he’s released over 50 productions to date on some of the most respected labels in the industry. Flux Pavilion (UK)

Dubstep was perhaps the defining genre of 2011, and Joshua Steele aka Flux Pavilion is one of its most innovative exponents. He blends hard, smashing rhythms and manic basslines with his own singing and instrumental talent, gaining him a loyal audience in the UK and abroad with his unique take on the dubstep sound. All the big names (including Rusko, Caspa and Plastician) have blasted his tunes all over the world, and his performances on Rinse and Kiss FM have solidified his reputation. Orjan Nilsen (NOR)

Norwegian trance and progressive DJ Ørjan Nilsen is known for his ability to get the crowd fired up, playing a variation of the more chunky and groovy trance music, with big influences from tech-house and techno. The fashion icon also turned fashion designer with a clothing line Milk&Honey and a soon to be released collaboration collection with street footwear brand Gallaz.

The Cream Of The Crop

So we all know that Pyramid Rock 2011 boasts one of the best line-up of acts this summer festival

season. But just how good are they?

Well why don’t we ask GRANDMASTER FLASH, whose seminal hit ‘The Message’ (penned with his

band The Furious Five) was last week announced to be inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame

in 2012. The induction is the latest in a long line of firsts for the iconic New York rapper and his

breakthrough 1982 single. In 2007 GRANDMASTER FLASH & The Furious Five were the first ever

hip hop act inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame, while ‘The Message’ will become the first

rap song inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame. The achievement is truly remarkable, as the song

that introduced much of the world to hip hop some 30 years ago continues to break ground in 2012.

Or how about all the amazing 2011 ARIA Award-winning artists on this year’s festival bill? Adding to

his 2007 ARIA for Best Male Artist, Mornington local GOTYE took home a whopping six more pointy

statues at Sunday night’s ceremony for his surprise #1 hit single ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’.

Among his plaudits included awards for Best Single, Best Pop Release and Best Male Artist. Folk

rockers BOY & BEAR signalled they’ll be a force to reckoned with for many years to come, opening

their ARIA account with five wins, including Best Group and the coveted Best Album award for their

debut Moonfire. THE LIVING END continued their dominance of the Australian rock scene with awards

for Best Rock Album and Most Popular Live Act, while Perth MC DRAPHT took home the gong for Best

Urban Album.

And topping the creamy cake with lots of delicious icing is the trifecta of winners at triple j’s J Awards

this afternoon. GOTYE took out the Album of the Year for his third record Making Mirrors, beating fellow

Pyramid acts BALL PARK MUSIC and DRAPHT, among others. He wasn’t so lucky in the Australian Music

Video of the Year category, but HERMITUDE were, snaring the award for their ‘Speak Of The Devil’ video.

And finally BALL PARK MUSIC were pronounced the Unearthed Artist Of The Year, edging out SAN CISCO

to claim the up-and-comer’s prize. Three J Awards out of three ain’t bad!

Nervo (AUS)

Ever since they penned the lyrics and melody to the hugely successful “When Love Takes Over”, produced by David Guetta and featuring Kelly Rowland, NERVO have continued to rise and rise in the dance scene, in both the clubs, festival circuit and in the charts. The amazingly successful writing partnership of Melbourne born twin-sisters, Mim and Liv Nervo, has won them a Grammy and placed them at the top of the a-list for artists to work with.

With only a few years in the international spotlight, their résumé already reads like a who’s who of the pop and dance scene. They wrote the first single from Kylie Minogue’s latest album Aphrodite, have written songs for Ke$ha, J-Lo, Britney, David Guetta, Cheryl Cole and Armin Van Buuren and opening shows for Nicki Minaj and Britney Spears on their arena tours… the list is dizzyingly impressive for a duo that were two years ago unheard of, unless of course you religiously trawled the clubs of Ibiza every weekend.

As well as producing, writing and the occasional modeling, the girls are also singers in their own right, and hope to release their debut EP in between a hectic tour schedule in the first half of next year. Liv took some time out with us to talk about writing Armin Van Buuren’s latest single “Not Giving Up On Love”, the makings of a good dance song, the dynamics of working with your twin sister and how they nearly gave it all up.

There latest hit “We’re All No One” sees them singing and features two of the biggest names in dance music at the moment – Afrojack and Steve Aoki.

Ruby Rose (AUS)

International model, famed TV host and VJ, in-demand DJ, established fashion designer… there’s no doubt about it, Melbourne’s favourite tattooed princess, Ruby Rose, is 2011’s “it” girl! Bursting into the limelight after appearing in the coveted Girlfriend model search in 2002, this vivacious and multi-talented 24 year old has been in the fast lane with her foot firmly planted on the accelerator ever since.

In TV land she’s hosted red carpets for the MTV Music Awards in New York, The ARIA’s and the Logies and Foxtels preferred host for the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. She’s been an MTV VJ, has hosted Ultimate School Musical and MTV Style and has been a regular on the 7PM Project and a guest on the likes of Talkin ‘Bout’ My Generation, 60 Minutes and Australia’s Next Top Model. Behind the lens she’s been the face of a campaign for Maybelline New York and appeared on the cover of Vogue Australia, New York’s INKED Magazine, and every major fashion and social read in between.  Outside of television and fashion, Ruby’s talents extend to DJing, where she plays at the hottest clubs, parties and festivals around the world. She’s taken her signature mixes to renowned LA club XIV, put it on wax with a compilation album with Grant Smillie that debuted at number ten on the ARIA charts.

She also hosts number one-rating radio show Party People and is currently working on her first solo album. Meanwhile, away from the stage, camera and flashbulbs, her generous contributions of time, energy and passion have been lent to a number of causes including the Wear It With Pride Campaign. She is an active campaigner against bullying and is an ambassador of the youth services organisation, Headspace. Brash, fun and 100% unique, there’s no one else on Earth quite like our own Ruby Rose and she’s well on her way to even greater stardom in 2011 and beyond.

Radio Slave (UK/BERLIN)

We are excited to announce the return of Radio Slave for Summadayze Melbourne. With his own unique take on house and techno Radio Slave - aka Matt Edwards – is a man whose talent doesn’t seem to end. His productions, remixes and DJ sets have only one aim: to make you move – inside and out. Originally from Brighton in the UK, Radio Slave re-located to the natural home of the electronic movement this past Decade, Berlin, in 2008.

Edwards has steadily built his Rekids label up to international prominence, as well as helming the 48th edition of the famed Fabric mix series. Production-wise, he hasn’t faltered since his Radio Slave debut back in 2006, when he released the jacking “My Bleep” to kick off Rekids. His tour in earlier this year in January is still the hot topic of conversation amongst his fans and music lovers with special mention going to his set at the Rainbow Serpent festival, which by all accounts has become the stuff of legend.

Andy Murphy (AUS)

Andy Murphy is Australia’s wild child, bringing the party to clubs all over Australia and the world. At just 26 years of age, Andy has already solidified himself as a big game player in Australia’s elite dance music scene. With a string of solo releases, a collaboration project by the name of Jam Xpress and a regular “Onelove” compilation Andy is Australia’s most prolific young DJ’s. Andy has locked in regular appearances in main rooms all over Australia. His diverse musical talent and drive for quality music, mean that he is a regular at the countries biggest festivals including our very own Summadayze and Future Music Festivals.

If accolades are your thing, Andy has these too; in 2009 Andy polled a staggering #2 nationally in the Sony Inthemix DJ poll and #1 in Victoria (Also highest placed Victorian in history of ITM Poll). In 2010 he did it again polling #3 in Australia and #1 in Victoria. In 2011 Andy featured as a Man Of Calibre in their winter range fashion campaign. Apart from conquering the Australian clubbing circuit, Andy has also toured internationally, most recently, the United States, raising the roof in Miami, New York and LA, (where he played Steve Aoki’s infamous Dim Mak). His talents have also taken him abroad to Dubai, South Korea, Singapore, Bali, New Zealand & more. There is no stopping Andy, moving onto bigger and better things. Up next is Andy’s next single “Can’t keep me” followed by a huge new track by Jam Xpress “Everybody get up” featuring the vocal talent of Seany B. Andy’s next compilation “Club Electro” is due October. Stay tuned!!!

Ajax (AUS)

Ajax, A self-proclaimed dance legend and piss taker has acquired many accolades. He’s been voted Australia’s Number 1 DJ twice, 3 Times 3D World Best DJ, Future DMA Best DJ, Busy P’s Best DJ of 2007 (XLR8R), Digitalism’s best DJ of 2007 (BIGSHOT) and Justice’s One to Watch in 2008 (DJ MAGAZINE)

He is the co founder and director of Sweat It Out Music and agency who last year released the worldwide hit “ We Know Speak Americano ” by Yolanda Be Cool vs. Dcup. Ajax has performed across the globe with shows at Fabric in the UK and the Paris Social Club in France just to name a few. In Australia he has toured multiple times with the Parklife Festivals, Future Music Festival, Summadayze, We Love Sounds, Splendour in the Grass and many others.

Fresh-faced surf rats (and of more recent times, globe trotters) Bleeding Knees Club will be returning to Australia for the summer (and the waves) after a triumphant trip to the US (which included shows with Gotye, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Male Bonding etc) and the release of their debut EP ‘Virginity’ in the US and UK.

Having hit the scene late last year with the release of their debut EP ‘Virginity’ (through I OH YOU) the Queensland friends quickly won the hearts of many with their catchy and distinctly recognisable single ‘Bad Guys’. With the support of high rotation on national radio stations like Triple J, FBi and 4ZZZ, Bleeding Knees Club hit the road with acts like Wavves, Lightspeed Champion (more on him a little later) and also won the right to play the Big Day Out on the Gold Coast.

With murmurs of the friends scratchy pop songs resonating across the globe, Bleeding Knees Club decided to pack up their garage on the Goldie and head overseas where they were quickly embraced by media and show goers everywhere. NME Magazine placed them at #21 in their ‘top 50 best new bands of 2011’, The Guardian blogged them and Dazed & Confused featured them. As tracks floated through the offices of selected record labels it didn’t take long for the boys to be snapped up by Columbia in the UK and IAMSOUND in the US who have just released the EP in their separate territories to killer reviews and love from publications like Rolling Stone, NME and more.

That brings us to the newest chapter of the Bleeding Knees Club story. After touring Australia with Dev Hynes (AKA Lightspeed Champion) early on in their career, Bleeding Knees Club decided to drop him an email to see if he might be interested in producing their debut album. Somewhat to their surprise Dev jumped at the opportunity and the Gold Coast bro’s jumped a plane and headed to NYC to record their record. What they emerged with was 12 songs and a 25 minute surf/pop record which they called ‘Nothing To Do’ and is set for release in March 2012.

In September 2011, Bleeding Knees Club released the first single to be taken from their debut album – a track called ‘Teenage Girls’. Once againGold Coast dudes hit home with critics and fans alike. Triple J premiered the song to the world and Rolling Stone (USA) hosted the video clip for the very first time which was quickly added to Channel [V] playlist and given MTV Australia’s ‘Just Hatched’ feature.

Off the back of Teenage Girls Bleeding Knees Club travelled to the USA for the CMJ conference and absolutely tore it up while sharing the stage with acts like Gotye, Little Red, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Male Bonding.

On the eve of the band returning to Australia from their latest successful international adventures we’re now pleased to announce that Bleeding Knees Club will be playing a string of headline club dates and making appearances at some of Australia’s premiere east coast summer festivals.

‘Dancing With A Dead Man’ is OUT NOW through Shock

Chet Faker’s debut live show with a full band.

The mysterious Chet Faker shot to fame when his cover of ‘No Diggity’ went viral, reaching Number 1 on the worldwide indie music aggregator, Hype Machine.

His fame grew rapidly and he was soon invited to perform on the UK’s heralded Black Cab Sessions and his latest single, Jeans and Wallet, was added to full rotation on Australian radio station JJJ.

Hailing from Melbourne’s deep disco scene and taking elements of his acoustic past, Chet Faker has created his own style that fuses personal stories of love and loss with an electronica soul.

Melbourne’s Aleks and the Ramps are set to release a new digital single; Middle Aged Unicorn on Beach with Sunset onOctober 27th through Gaga Digital. Middle Aged Unicorn on Beach with Sunset is the first taste of Aleks and the Ramps’ forthcoming album due for release early next year.

With references to Shakespeare, Satan, wonky dance floor moves, parental aliens and holiday ennui, Middle Aged Unicorn on Beach with Sunet is the latest weird pop gem to be bestowed upon us from Ramps HQ.

In addition to the release of Middle Aged Unicorn… and its totally rad film clip, Aleks and the Ramps are proud to announce the re-release of their first two (currently unavailable) albums; Pisces vs Aquarius (2007) and Midnight Believer (2009).
